Loch Awe Tragedy

PAC Region 93 - North Lanarkshire

In March 2009 Loch Awe, the popular pike angling venue in the west of Scotland, was the scene of a tragedy in which four pike anglers lost their lives.

For the families involved the heartache has still not ended as the bodies of two of the men were never found.

North Lanarkshire region of the PAC recently held a fund raising night.

RA93 Regional Organiser Sandie Mackie explains further.

"The tragedy in March where four pike anglers lost their lives on Loch Awe touched us all in some manner, and until recently police and rescue divers where still searching for Steven Carty and Thomas Douglas."

"Unfortunately due to lack of resources the search has now been called off, leaving the two families unable to lay their loved ones to rest."

"The two families are now scraping together to enlist a professional diving team and modern high-tech sonar boat costing £1200 per day to bring Steven and Thomas home."
